Chapter 01 · The Producer

A natural from the family farms of Hube, Sidamo.

More than 500 small family farms grow this coffee around Hube, in Ethiopia's Sidamo region. Here coffee is part of everyday life. Families have grown it for generations, handpicking ripe cherries at harvest and sharing the cup at gatherings as a gesture of friendship. Sidamo sits in the Great Rift Valley, a landscape of lush greenery, freshwater lakes and red clay soils. This lot grows at 1,800–2,036 metres, and the region's many microclimates mean coffees change from one town to the next. After picking, cherries are sorted and spread whole across raised beds, turned often to dry evenly. At around 11% moisture they move to the dry mill. Cofinet, our import partner, brought this lot to us.
