FAQ
Everything you need to know, in one place. Still stuck? Email hello@slowcoffee.co.nz and we'll help.
Ordering & Shipping
When will my order ship?
We roast to order and dispatch within 24–72 hours, Monday to Friday. Orders placed over the weekend go out Monday morning. We rest our coffee before it leaves us — we don't ship it fresh off the roaster.
How much is shipping?
New Zealand: free over $70, otherwise $8. Rest of the world: free over $200 NZD, otherwise calculated at cost at checkout. We ship worldwide via DHL Express.
Do you ship internationally? What about duties and taxes?
Yes — we ship worldwide via DHL Express. Any duties and taxes can be calculated and paid up front at checkout, so there are no surprise charges when your order lands.
Can I track my order?
Yes — you'll get a tracking link by email as soon as it ships. If it hasn't moved in the expected window, email hello@slowcoffee.co.nz and we'll chase it with the courier.
Can I change or cancel my order?
If it hasn't been roasted and dispatched yet, email us as soon as you can and we'll do our best to sort it.
Freshness & Storage
Is the coffee fresh? Do you ship it straight off the roaster?
Everything is roasted to order — but we don't ship it fresh off the roaster. We rest it first so it's drinking beautifully by the time it reaches you.
When does it taste best?
Our filter coffees peak around 6–8 weeks off roast — and we're often still tasting great cups well past 12 weeks. Espresso is at its best between 2–4 weeks. Our Studio Blend hits its stride around 17 days off roast. Every bag is stamped with its roast date so you can follow along.
How should I store it?
Keep it sealed, somewhere cool, dry and out of sunlight — oxygen is coffee's enemy. For the long haul, freeze it in small airtight portions and brew straight from frozen; no need to thaw.
Brewing & Grind
Which grind should I choose?
Choose Whole Bean if you have a grinder — it always tastes best fresh-ground. Choose Pre-ground for Filter for pour-over, plunger/French press, AeroPress and filter machines. Choose Pre-ground for Espresso for espresso machines and stovetop moka pots.
What's the difference between your filter and espresso roasts?
Filter roasts are lighter and lean into bright, delicate fruit and floral notes. Espresso roasts are developed a touch further for sweetness and body through a machine. Many of our coffees brew well both ways — the label tells you what it's dialled for.
Subscriptions
Do you offer a coffee subscription?
Yes — on our filter coffees and our Studio Blend. Choose your size and how often you'd like it, and we'll roast and ship it fresh on your schedule. You can manage, pause or skip anytime from your account. (Our limited single-origin espresso drops aren't on subscription — they're released in small batches.)
Our Coffee
Where do you roast?
In the Waikato, New Zealand, on a Loring roaster — engineered for precision, consistency and lower emissions.
How is your decaf made?
With the Swiss Water Process — completely chemical-free, using only water to gently remove the caffeine while keeping the flavour intact.
What is the Espresso Program?
A rotating line-up of single origins roasted specifically for espresso — full, sweet and ready for every espresso-based drink, from a straight shot to a long black to a flat white — at a friendlier everyday price than our limited filter drops.
Returns & Issues
What's your returns policy?
We don't offer returns — but if there's ever an issue with your order or a fault with your coffee, we'll send you a replacement. Just email hello@slowcoffee.co.nz with your order number and we'll sort it.
The Drops
Why do coffees sell out — and will they come back?
We release small-lot single origins in limited drops, so once a coffee's gone, it's usually gone. Some favourites do return — you can browse past releases in the Archive, and we announce restocks and new drops by email.
